Service Description

The Class: Pottery is open to different approaches and skill levels, so don’t be afraid to go at whatever speed is comfortable for you. The instruction will focus on the pottery wheel, but as you create, feel free to explore with the clay—hand-building, tile/ornament creation, pinch-potting. The possibilities are endless. Instructor I’m your instructor, Andrew, and I’m there to facilitate your exploration with clay and the pottery wheel. I will provide group instruction and demonstrations. As you throw, build, and create with clay, I will provide one-on-one advice and assistance to ensure that everyone ends the course with finished pieces of pottery and, most importantly, has a good time. I will provide guidance and assistance at whatever level you’re comfortable with. Some people are open to hands-on assistance, while others may prefer to give it their best solo. Just let me know if you’d like help with something specific. And I will ask before touching or interfering with any of your creative pieces! Itinerary: Session 1- Basics of clay/health & safety/introduction to wheel throwing/ decorating raw. Session 2- More wheel throwing/introduction to trimming. Session 3- Finishing your raw pots/introduction to decorating and glazing. Session 4- Time to glaze and decorate everything! Bring your creations to life with surface and colour. Materials: Everything is provided for you—clay, tools, glazes, decorating materials, and aprons. You take any finished pots home but leave the tools/aprons behind for future studio use. The class clay is a mid-fire, functional, food-safe white stoneware clay. It is great for beginners, very forgiving, and responds well with colours. You only need to bring yourself, your hands, a good attitude, and, very importantly, casual clothing that you aren’t afraid to get dirty. As you can imagine, pottery can be a messy affair. Don’t be surprised by the occasional smear of clay on your pants or glaze stain on your sleeves—getting dirty is all part of the fun.
